Walsh Bay's very own
Sydney Theatre Company has won the Banksia Award for the category of Leading in Sustainability.
Sydney Theatre Company has been honoured at Australia’s prestigious Banksia Awards, which acknowledge excellence, dedication and leadership in various areas that contribute to the environment and a sustainable future.
This is another accolade for STC’s groundbreaking
Greening The Wharf program - a first for any theatre company in the world in its scale and comprehensive approach to sustainability. In recent years, STC has transformed its home base, The Wharf at Pier 4/5, into a unique demonstration of how buildings (even heritage-listed ones) can be made more sustainable.
One of the most visible measures of Greening The Wharf has been the installation of 1906 Suntech Pluto solar panels covering the length of the roof, making it Australia’s second-largest rooftop solar array.
As a result of the win, Walsh Bay's residential Strata Buildings have inspirationally registered to be part of the City of Sydney Council's 'Smart Apartments Program'.
Stay tuned as STC also announce new sustainability horizons for the Company that will continue its greening commitment through 2012 and beyond.
